Today there are many people that fear Clowns
I have been clowning for over thirty years. I started in 1981 during National clown week; I meant a man that was and X Ringling Brothers clown He taught me about makeup and character, I started with one stick of makeup a magic trick, and a feather duster. I will never forget the first time I was a clown. It was at a mall here in Hampton Virginia, I was with a clown group, boy; I made a fool of myself. Now after all of these years when I think about it, it’s funny. After about three to six mouths I was getting paying jobs. That was far from what I would have ever dreamed. Then one day the same year I met a man His name was Danny Taylor He was a mime, and a clown, he help me get my first booking agent then later he help get a second one. We work a lot of gigs together, it was fun, I also meat a lot of other entertainers. I got my name from a neighbor “Leroy the Hobo Clown” I’ve used that name as long as I’ve been Clowning. Why am I a tramp clown? Clowning brought me great Joy, and let me show love to others. 1John 4:16 we know how much God loves us because we have felt his love and we believe him when he tells us that he loves us dearly. God is Love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him. When I was just a little boy it seem to me every one through I would never make anything of myself, maybe they even though I was hopeless, I was made fun of in school. I could not read when I was in school. And I did not learn until much later in my life. I suffered with depression for years. Then one day The Lord said to me it’s time for you to get out of this shell you are living in. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 He said to me, “My Grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” There I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecution, in difficulties. FOR WHEN I AM WEAK, THEN I AM STRONG. That is why I’m a clown. Back in the 80’s and 90’s I ran in to people that were scared of me. But I did not push myself on them I let them come to me. And they would. They just needed to see how I was with other people. One time I got a call to do a gig at a day care. It just so happen that I forgot to ask the age of the children, well someone meant me at the door, they walk me to the room where the children were. I walk in those little toddlers scream they were scared of me. They were just toddlers, so I sat all of my things down at the door, I walk over to the middle of the room and sat down on the floor and started to play with the same toys the kids were playing with. Soon they had stopped screaming they started to come over to me. To play with the same toys I was playing with they would even hug me. It was time for me Togo they all cried. Today it’s not the kids that are scared; it’s the adults that are scared. I can go some place and I will hear about someone that has run away because they are scared of clowns. That is not the way it should be clown are not scary. What has happen, there has been a movie that came out some years back it was a harrier movie by Stephen King, then there is the haunted houses The people in that movie was only playing a part. People that work in these haunted houses they are not clowns. People that dress up like a clown and go out to scar people don’t know the emotional scares they are leaving on those people. They will never be the same.
Clowns Have been around since before Christ, they were not called clowns they were called framers and as time when by they where fools and then Jester Zany. No matter the name they entertain the people of those times. They brought laughter, fun, and joy to the people of those times, and still are to today. There is nothing to fear, The Bible talks about fear, 2 Timothy 1: 7, For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (fear) but a spirit of power and love and self-control.
Proverbs 29:25, the fear of man lays a snare, but he who trusts in the Lord is safe. I would encourage you to check out the history of clowns.
